Welcome to the first meet-up of 2024!
This time we’ll be meeting at Juova in Kaisaniemi. Juova is one of Helsinki’s best craft beer bars and has a wide variety of drinks from local breweries and other producers.
Schedule
- 18:00: Event start
- 18:30: Ruby pub quiz
- 19:00: Dependencies – an asset and a curse (Joakim Antman)
-
19:30: How I’m trying to fix localization, and what you can do to help (Eemeli Aro)
Like many other problems in coding, localization (the art of making your stuff usable and nice to people from various countries and cultures) can seem really easy, until it’s not. Really simple solutions often get you most of the way to what you need, but then the final few complexities turn out to be Hard. I’ve spent a decade working on making localization easier; let me share with you a couple of the projects I’m currently engaged in, and how you can help make the world a little bit more international. Featuring answers to simple questions like “What’s a localizable message?”, “What’s a locale?”, and “Which English should I prefer?”
- 20:00: Socialising and networking
Location
The backroom of Juova is reserved for us. Check in with the organisers to find out how to order drinks on our tab…
