Give a talk
We’re always looking for talks for meet-ups. Finding a talk or two is often the hardest part of putting together the meet-up.
A talk at a meet-up doesn’t need to be especially long or polished, so if you have even an inkling of an idea for a topic that might yield a talk, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, even if it’ll only make for a 5-minute lightning talk.
Some evergreen topics for talks are:
- What’s new in Rails version X?
- What’s new in Ruby version Y?
- How to use that cool library you recently discovered?
- How you solved an interesting problem at work?
We’ve recently started posting recordings of talks on YouTube. This is optional. If you don’t want to have your talk recorded, just let us know…
Submitting a talk
The best channel for submitting talks is our continuous call for papers on Sessionize. If you submit a talk through the CFP, we’ll work with you to pick a suitable date for the next meet-up…
There’s no need to go into a huge amount of detail in the talk description.
If you have questions or issues with the Sessionize form, please get in touch via email.
Reimbursement of travel and accommodation expenses
Helsinki Ruby ry now offers travel assistance for speakers joining meet-ups from beyond the greater Helsinki region.
Up to €250 of travel expenses for international speakers, up to €150 for domestic speakers from outside the Greater Helsinki region.
If your talk has more than one speaker, this benefit will unfortunately have to be shared between them. Due to a limited budget we can only afford to reimburse costs for one talk per meet-up.
Please hold on to your receipts and be prepared to submit scans of them for re-imbursement. Your expenses may exceed the cap but you’ll be responsible for the overage.
